We invite applicants from all domains of food and nutritional sciences, encompassing both fundamental and applied aspects of food science, as well as all areas related to nutrition and metabolism.

In the field of food science, we welcome expertise in all areas, including but not limited to: advanced and emerging technologies such as synthetic biology, cultured foods, food chemistry, alternative protein sources, 3D food printing, food safety and microbiology, lipid and carbohydrate chemistry, protein engineering and design, materials science, microfluidics, processing of natural products and waste recovery, delivery systems, and innovative distribution methods such as blockchain applications in the food supply chain. We also encourage work on the environmental impacts of food production, including life cycle analysis of food systems.

In the area of nutritional sciences and metabolism, we seek research at the cellular, tissue, and organismal levels. Topics of interest include: the biology of metabolic tissues (e.g., adipose tissue, liver, pancreas, muscle), the role of nutrition in disease prevention and health promotion, human performance, the gut microbiome and gut-metabolic axis, personalized nutrition, metabolomics, immunometabolism, neuroscience, appetite regulation, and the biology of the digestive system, as well as experts in clinical, behavioral, and population-oriented studies on human nutrition and health.

We also welcome candidates who develop and apply big data and artificial intelligence approaches to food systems and nutritional science.

Department of Animal Sciences

Any aspect of Animal Sciences relevant to farm animals including: Animal physiology (whole-animal, tissue, cellular, or molecular levels); Endocrinology and neurobiology; Cellular and molecular biology; Animal nutrition and metabolism; Reproductive biology and developmental biology; Immunology and disease resistance; Muscle biology and meat science; Genetics, epigenetics, and genomics; Animal welfare and behavior;   Environmental impact and sustainability of animal production systems; Water quality and its relation to animal health.

Head of Department: Prof. Berta Levavi-Sivan (berta.sivan@mail.huji.ac.il)

Institute of Environmental Sciences

The Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES), at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, encompasses four academic disciplines: Soil and Water Sciences, Plant Pathology and Microbiology, Entomology, and Environmental Economics and Management. Critical challenges at the intersection of agriculture and the environment are addressed through interdisciplinary research and teaching programs. These include, among others, issues uniquely relevant to the geo-socio-political characteristics of Israel: high population density posing pressures on agricultural land, open spaces and biodiversity; water scarcity, escalating effects of global warming in semi-arid and arid regions; and economic-political uncertainty.

We seek excellent candidates conducting any aspect of interdisciplinary research in the framework of the institute’s interests and activities, with relation to the interdependence between environmental and agricultural sciences. The research of the candidates can overlap with one or more of the current academic disciplines or bring topics expending the existing ones. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree followed by productive postdoctoral training. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of robust research experience supported by an excellent publication record, and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Potential candidates should contact the head of the institute for further information, before submitting their application: Prof. Shai Morin

Head of Institute: (shai.morin@mail.huji.ac.il).
